I have lived a few minutes away from Lake Ontario for most of my life. As a child it was family picnics on the Toronto Islands and smelt fishing along bonfire lit beaches in Newcastle.  In my teens there were the friday night parties at the Scarborough Bluffs. I would take my children to the Leslie street spit for hikes and our dog for morning walks at Kew beach. I try to get to a few favourite spots as often as time allows. The pictures that follow are all taken from one of those spots.

There was a saying, that one picture was worth a thousand words. These days, with the proliferation of images on stock photo sites, one word is represented by millions of pictures. The Keyword.

Last year I had the pleasure of working with Gary Beelik and Jim Ryce from Soapbox Design of Toronto, on the Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Annual Report. My photography for the report was recently awarded Gold and received the Grand Award in the international photography category, at the International ARC 2011 Awards. A yearly annual report competition.

At the International ARC 2009 Awards, I was honoured with a bronze for the work I did with Soapbox on the GTAA Annual Report. This report was also selected for inclusion in the Communication Arts Design Annual that year.

While it is an honour to be recognized by the creative community, the real joy is in the collaboration creating the work. Thanks Gary & Jim!

Many of my earlier pictures were taken as an exercise in distilling the world around me into neat little packages. I took 100′s of graphic pictures of anything I found remotely interesting. Pictorially, they have little value. Historically, they represent the process that established my visual sensibility.
